And their paying me to do this...

Journal Entry: Fri Apr 25, 2008, 11:51 PM
I'm currently half way though my two weeks of work experience at AutoLiv. I'm working with the high speed photography unit at the crash test center, so their basically paying me to help the photographers capture video of cars attempting to duke it out with a concrete wall.

Crash Crash

The camera's are quite impressive too, their top of the line cameras are Phantom V10's they'll to 10,000Fps at full res and the smaller the res the faster the fps (they'll do 111,111fps but at a 32x32 res).

The stuff I’m doing isn't that exciting. Mostly just moving tripods, printing stickers and taking most of the documentation photos of the before and after, every detail of the car is recorded before and after the crash. So my job is to do all the under body, engine, exterior, interior and sensor photos.

I also got the rare task of re-painting a car a rather nice shade of powder blue. Re-painting a car with house paint and a roller is one of the stranger things I've done. I got half way through it when it clicked "oh right, I’m painting a car blue so we can slam it into a wall at 60km/h with a 250Kg block of concrete in the boot".

In other news I got back from the Archery nationals last week with two bronze medals. And I got back from another artwork comp today that was held by a local council, I didn't win. I have to admit, this growing collection of highly commended, finalists, short listing, merits and the such I've been getting for the past two years is getting really, really old.

I also got my hands on a new Wacom Tablet; a Wacom Bamboo Fun 6x9 Black. It's awesome, and I’m getting to grips with it quite quickly.

Looks like quite a good camera, especially for the price. I've yet to get my hands on my own DSLR.

If you've got two lenses, you can mount them face to face (so the filter threads are touching). Thats my 'on the cheap' macro lens :p you get some pretty decent results too.

It's my pleasure and thank you very much.

I don't use any dedicated macro lenses, I've experimented a little with improvised macro lenses though. What kind of camera are you using yourself?

You're welcome, your style is very appealing to me. I like nature and photography and historically that is where my work has been focussed (back when I used to play with my Contax 35mm).
Now that I have my new 400D I am begining to appreciate the power of black and white photography and your work demonstrates that power perfectly.
